Focal Point Closing

John Van Stelen of Focal Point, Inc has been a great asset to many who used his service.

I used him to re-polish a Rolleiflex 2.8D TLR taking lens. It has never failed me since!

Is there any other source that does similar work like John?

A definitely loss to the community.

One valuable Focal Point service I will miss is lens element polishing and re-coating.

Not sure who I would use for this service in the U.S. if the need arises.

I sent my Rollei to Focal Point. John said he would work on mine it got there before the 1st. It arrived yesterday, John is a stand up guy. I asked him if anyone in the USA did the same type of work, he said he was the only place. He is going to enjoy his retirement.

I had a 50 Rigid's front element made perfect by John's recoating.

Also recently had a Linhof select 100/2.8 Planar lens separation repaired.

I'm so glad that this work got done. What an asset.

John worked on a Noct f/1 for me a few years ago. That work is likely extremely tedious. He's probably glad to move on. :)

He recoated a rigid V1 Summicron for me and it came back like new. I could call him and he would answer questions I had about future purchases. This is a tremendous loss to the community.

If we're singing the praises of John Van Stelen then I'll add that he rebuilt my Minolta M-Rokkor 28mm F/2.8, which was on the verge of developing the dreaded disease. Apparently this lens is a pain to disassemble and he emailed me that my copy was being particularly so. Anyway, he got the job done, and it performed beautifully during my time of ownership. Since sold to KEH. All the best to John in his retirement.

John was able to rebuild one of my Contaflex lenses with lens separation. His services will certainly be missed.

Very upset that I waited on sending two Rolleiflexs to him. Does anyone know of an alternative?

Call me a very lucky guy because I had the Linhof Select 100/2.8 Planar lens separation repaired early last year. I likely was among some of the last to get this repair performed.

This particular lens now is a pristine sample. None better.

So that there's no confusion: the one that's closing is the Focal Point that does lens repairs (http://www.focalpointlens.com/), NOT the Focal Point that supplies specialty glass for negative carriers, contact printing, scanners, etc. (http://www.fpointinc.com/).

Just so that nobody is sent astray, I regret to have to post that the Focal Point that supplies specialty glass (fpointinc) has closed now as well - had email confirmation from the proprietor earlier today.
