I have a rigid 'Cron that I haven't used in a few years. I took it out today and it seems that the infinity focus lock is stuck in the on position. I don't have an M mount body handy on which to mount the lens. Can this focus lock in fact get stuck?

I'm pressing the button and trying to move the focus ring simultaneously. However, the lens is not mounted on a body, I don't know if this matters.

Doesn't matter. Can you see a movement when you press the button? You should be able to see how the simple mechanical mechanism works.

The lubrication could be a little gummed up from lack of use and the passage of time. It might be easier to move it when mounted on a body. Don't force it, though. If it's really frozen tight, I would send it in for servicing.

Right, it could be that the infinity lock unlocks, but the focus helix is seized due to gummed up lube. If the lens has a rear cap, that should be easy enough to hold.

Any thoughts on repair? Friday I contacted John Van Stelten at Focal Point and he just had nasal surgery and is very backed up. I also contacted Sherry Krauter and she has not responded to my email. DAG is always backed up. I wanted to sell the lens before Christmas.

The button moves, the focus ring does not. Is there some other movement to which you refer?

Wait a minute. Focus ring? Did you try focusing by moving the focus tab with the button held down? If you are using the focus ring, I wonder if you let go of the button. You should keep it held down until you have moved it off of infinity. Then you can use the focus ring.

That's it! When I hold down the focus lock button and then move the focus tab, it works. Thanks Rob. 😱

There was no good reason that the focus on the lens was seized. This lens is built like a tank and had a full service about ten years ago by Sherry. Yea!
