I've been using CY and Konica AR lenses on the XE-1. I struggle with manual focus sometimes - especially when I focus, then half-press the shutter button, and find that focus appears to shift. I then re-focus with the button half-pressed. I've tried to find explanation for this but so far can't put my finger on it. What are other people's experience with manual focus? I find that my shooting slows down (in a bad sort of way) and there are too many oof. I want to become more fluid and quick in my work but struggle with this shift sometimes - not sure if I nailed the focus the first time!

Focus CANNOT shift in the instances you mention - all adapted manual focus lenses permanently operate at working aperture. Is the camera switching between different preview modes at half-press?

Do you have highlighting turned on? This makes the in-focus areas stand out in sharp relief, and then when you half-press the shutter, you see exactly what the sensor sees, without the highlighting. This isn't focus shift—you'd need to be changing aperture for that to be an issue.

Thanks. Yes, I was thinking if there was some setting I had that caused this (rather than the lens!). I do use focus peaking but when I tested it, it really seemed to me that I had not nailed the focus. So I wanted to post something to get a sanity check. Looks like then I am not getting the focus right in the first place (often) and when I press the shutter release half-way, the removal of focus peaking prompts me to check the focus again.

As others stated, the camera is immune to focus shift. Legacy lenses do not interact with the camera at all.

How come you are doing a half-press with legacy lenses? I don't use legacy lenses and I rarely use a half-press with Fujinon lenses.

I don't use the half-press as a standard method. I happened to notice my incorrect focus when I did. I sometimes use it to lock the exposure and move the frame of view. I'm going to pick up an autofocus X lens as an option - make my life a bit easier in certain situations.
