Focus tab or no focus tab?

^^^^ Cool idea. Well done. Were did you get the TAB from?

I have an 21mm SA with a tab and it's brilliant. That lens lives on my M4-P.
I've always thought it would be good on my DR Summicron. I don't use it much for close focus stuff so I think it could work.

thanks for the update.
So there's no filing required to fit the tab, just double-sided tape to secure it?
The back of the new focus tab is hollow and it fits over the existing bump?

^---- yes, right. There was a bit of molding flash on the underside of the tab that had to be excavated with a hobby knife so that the bump on the ZM focus ring would fit under the tab. The result is really nice, smooth and with just the right amount of throw for street shooting.

I like the focusing tabs on my wide to normal lenses. I can tell by the position of the tab where I'm focused--I can actually focus without putting the camera to my eye when I'm out street shooting.

For example, on my rigid Summicron, when the focusing tab is at the six o'clock position, I know it's focused at 7 feet. So I can twiddle the tab slightly to either side before I bring the camera up to eye level if I need to grab a quick shot.

The infinity locks, however, can be a bit of a pain in the same circumstances.

Hi,

Regarding the focus tab, personally I like it very much on my 35 Cron. however my 50 summilux and the 90 Elmarit M don't have one. I guess you have to learn to shoot with and without. On the Cron's I find it very fast to focue, but these lenses typically have a short focus throw. On the Summilux the focus throw is much longer and a tab probable wouldn't work any way. likewise for the Elmarit m.

Akitadog.

I did, with high-tech double-sided sticky tape :). Works perfectly, and matches my Gen 4 50mm Summicron in ergos as well as contrast/sharpness.
