Focusing Issue with My New VC 50 f/1.5 Nokton (Nikon RF Mount)

Ok, to get the sleeve off I think you first need to remove the outer retainer ring on the back of the lens. If you don't have any lens repair tools, the best bet is to buy a cheap pinset from a dollar store and modify it to fit the retainer ring. The retainer ring should come undone easily if force is applied equally to both slots.

Next, there is also a screw protruding from a hole on the side of the metal sleeve you need to remove. You need to remove that screw as well. Its a bit tricky to put the screw back in, so take notes on the position of the screw, the spring coils, the lens barrel position etc. before taking the screw out.

Once you've removed that screw, the sleeve should slide right off. Good luck!

Does the ring unscrew? or.. I'm not sure I understand. I can't seem to unscrew or remove the ring.. I must be doing something wrong...

The ring should unscrew in the anti-clockwise direction. You have to apply force to both slots in the ring at the same time or the ring will be almost impossible to undo.

I suggested using a modified pinset to undo the retainer ring because they're a lot cheaper than a proper lens opener tool (pictured below).

If you're having trouble getting the retainer ring undone, you're probably best off sending the lens to a repairman.

Thanks for all the help, Jon. I'll attempt to unscrew it again tonight, but I'll probably end up jsut sending it out. Oy..

Congrat! :)

How'd you do it?

I used the tweezers in the slots to get the rear element off. I figured out after removing it and by comparing it to the 85/2 that the metal sleeve and pin where rotated from the correct position, which is why it didn't click into the helical properly.. so I corrected that and it mounts and snaps into the helical perfectly now! Not sure how that happened.. but it's fixed now
