Focussing the Nokton 40mm

I tried a Bessa R3A w/Nokton 40mm. What I did find, was that the focussing ring of the Nokton was a bit stiff, and the little scollup thing on the focus ring, just didnt seem to be in the right position. I have pretty big hands, but I couldnt find a comfortable position to one finger focus it with my right or left index fingers (I am left eyed btw).

I dont remember having this problem when I tried out a MP w/35mm. Is the Bessa R3A taller than a MP or something?
