Today I noticed that the rear LCD of my Nikon D700 was foggy. I looked at it closer under a stronger light source and was shocked! It is only visible when the LCD screen is turned off. Anyone else having the same issue? Is this the sort of thing that Nikon USA will handle as a defect in manufacturing (something like an infinite warranty)? If I have to pay for the fix how much will it cost?

mine's similar - at first I thought ir was under the protective screen but now I'm not sure. No idea whether covered or not or how much - no doubt many $$

In other words, purely cosmetic.

That camera wasn't made to be admired when switched off, it was made to be switched on and used.

But isn't the fog under the LCD glass an indication humidity/water is seeping into the camera?

I dunno! Are you using it in damp or wet environments?
Not all 'fog-like' fogs are the result of water, it could maybe be screen coating that is starting to give, or a haze from an internal component that airs out, or ..., or ...

I always store my camera in a Pelican case when not in use and I did not used it at all when rainy or in proximity of water. I live in NYC though and it is humid, we are [New York] Islanders after all!
Just want to make sure the fog issue does't lead to more serious issues.. !?

A friend of mine had Nikon void his warranty because they said the camera had water damage. He too was very careful with it. Humid Vermont tho.
