Foggy VF in M4

I have a question before taking an M4 offer. I like that camera because it is really in good condition. Just one problem makes me worried is the little bit foggy VF. The yellow patch is still nice, contrasty, aligned.
The seller told me it cannot be cleaned because it was the previous owner might clean it in a wrong way and damaged its surface. The seller already sent to his technician for consultation. From my observation, it should be either surface (1) or (2) get this problem:

In this case, could it be replaced? if yes, is it worth to do so?

Thanks a lot for your advices. BTW, is there anyone had problem with glass separation for M4 (serial < 1,200,000) before?
 
Usually as long as there is no separation and the patch is contrasty the RF is good. Due to age the interior glass surfaces can get quite dirty and are usually easily cleaned. Even an older camera that seems to have a good VF comes back from a CLA with a much brighter VF. However if the potential exists that the rangefinder is bad and needs replaced I suggest you get a ball park estimate to do the work and then subtract it from the normal price. A good M4 should go for $800~$1000 and I'm guessing the RF replacement with a CLA would be in the neighborhood of $500. Your probably also looking at a very look wait to get it back. Of course once repaired you'll have a very nice camera. Of course you could look in the forum ads and buy mine.
 
Thanks Beemermark for your advice. I know about the value of M4 and RF replacement. What I want to confirm here is if I can just replace part of the viewfinder. Is it possible with fraction of cost to whole RF replacement?
