ok, how about we come up with some (hopefully) interesting headings for a few new sections to the forum that would fall under 'photography' as we see it.

let there be places for those that prefer or simply want to talk pics.

this presupposes that jorge can find room for a few new sections.

To be perfectly honest, I think it's nonsense to assume all the other categories are about gear and not about photographs. Just go through the threads in for example the Leica M forum, and it's obvious that a lot of them are about photography, not just gear.

I think it's a bit naieve to assume photography/gear talk ratio will change just because of the forums titles, just like it's naieve to assume that a forum is only about gear because of it's title.

That said, a photojournalism forum is in my opinion a very good idea.

"Urban landscapes"... thinking of this type of imagery:

... gallery ?

I don't know but I don't think it makes a lot of sense to create categories for each type of photography while there is an excellent gallery feature at RFF...

Hey. Let's making it interesting.
Add a photo critique section.
I agree.. while we always try to be good friends here and find something good to say about each others' work, it would be good to have a forum where you can post an image with the expectation that others would say what's good and bad (or at least, what can be improved upon).. that's how we learn to improve

just be sure that it's clear that when you post an image, you can expect positive and negative comments.. and we, as critics, should try to make it informative, rather than subjective commentary

The gallery feature is not appropriate for discussions about photography, which is what Joe was suggesting we should try to promote.
The image I posted was just meant as an illustration for the particular theme I had in mind.
In my opinion the topics have to be quite specific and selective for any discussion to remain focused, constructive and inspirational.

Joe,

I have to admit - I am really confused. 😕

I nearly had my gonads removed here a few weeks ago when I dared to suggest that a primary purpose of RFF was to post pics!

It seems to me that this site is almost anti-pic posting. Which is why the Gallery is so neglected and is a PITA to try and upload to.

For example, why does it have a daily limit on the number of pics posted as opposed to a limit by size (e.g. Flickr premits up to 10mb of photos per day)?

And the random Gallery display on the website was "sacrificed" to enhance our access to the site!! 🙄

Seems all it did was provide more ad space and access continues to go down the crapper.

I'm all for posting more pics. I do so all the time. But I really think the gear crowd is more interested in talking about their "stuff" than showing us what it can do!

george,
at the risk of starting a war...your problem was in how you presented your argument.

right now my goal is tying to keep as many people satisfied as i can and by maybe adding some sections we could help foster the photo side of things.

as to the gallery, jorge would have to answer those questions. i believe most of the changes occurred because the site was so slow, but the bulk of the gallery problems happened with the last server move. it was never the same afterward.

gear and pics can live together just fine if the people who are interested in both treat the others with respect and understanding.

I'd be all for a "photo-critique" instead of "rate my photo", more feedback that way.

I err on the side of shoot more talk less anyway 🙂
