Fomadon LQN + HP5+ pushing questions

Hi,

i just bought a bottle of Fomadon LQN because it's cheap and fotoimpex describes it as "Equalizing-Speed enhancing". so i want to try pushing hp5+ to maybe 1600 and 800.

I can only find dev-times for 400 with fomadon lqn, has anyone used this developer for pushing before? Can i just add 50% to the dev-time for a 1-Stop push, 125% for a 2 stop push etc?

Would love to hear from your experience

I am still looking for an answer in case anyone has tried pushing with fomadon lqn, i couldnt find any info on it so far.



i haven't gotten to try it myself so far, i might just try in the next 2 weeks if noone answers.
 
It would be interesting to hear people's results. I don't know that developer. I know when I compared results with Tri-X and HP5 using D76, I thought Tri-X was much better behaved when pushing to even ASA 800, much less 1600. That was over 40 years ago, so YMMV.
 
Someone here https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/is-fomadon-p-equivalent-to-d-76.33805/ claims it's similar to Ilfosol 3. See if you can find some tables that have the same films and check if the times are the same to confirm?

thanks for the link you sent. although i didn't find the information in your link a quick google search suggested they indeed have similar ingredients an pH values.

The times suggested on at massive dev chart are very different from ilfosol 3 though, sometimes fomadon 1+10 has twice the time ilfosol 1+9 has
 
So in case anyone is interested: i shot some test shots with hp5 rated at 1600 iso as a test roll with my newly aquired Point and Shoot (Canon Prima Mini 2).
Probably not optimal testing conditions but i was positive the camera is in working condition because it was pretty much mint condition.

I developed in Fomadon LQN 1+9 at room temp for 22 minutes, 10 seconds of agitation every minute, washed, then fixed in adofix for ~5 minutes.

These are straight scans from my Plustek Opticfilm 8100, altough i did significantly lower the contrast in the picture of my cat, because it was basically black for the background and white for the cat, altough his face/throat are snow-white an where lit by daylight coming in from the window.

What did i learn?
-My new P&S has trouble finding focus
-Developing time seems to be ok, contrast is very high and not a lot of shadow detail is preserved.
-Grain is not too big imo
- i definitely need to do this again with my bessa and try to actually take some good photos rather than random snapshots on my commute.

Hi, I was just searching out of curiosity how many folks use Foma's developer stuff and found this interesting, so thought I should add what little I know to this thread (I'm sorry, I know this thread is about 8 years old but i hope adding what I know to this might be helpful to others who would cone to this after us)

Fomadon's LQN gives dev times at 20°C for their 3 main films F100, F200 & F400 on the bottle's lable.

they also mention "Extention factor" a.k.a "Expansion factor" for N+1, N+2 etc development (Push development)

The recommended extention factors by foma for each film at 1+10 dil ratio are:

• Fomapan 100 = 1.5x
So recommended time for box speed (100) is 7mins
Then for E.I: 200 (N+1) would be -
7 (mins) x 1.5 (extention factor) = 10.5 mins

For E.I 400 (N+2) would be -
10.5 mins x 1.5 = 15.7 (or Roughly 15.5 or 16) mins


• Fomapan 200 = 1.4x

So recommended time for box speed (200) is 5 mins

Then for E.I: 400 (N+1) would be -

5 (mins) x 1.4 (extention factor) = 7 mins


For E.I 800 (N+2) would be -

7 mins x 1.4 = 9.8 mins (or Roughly 9.5 or 10) mins

• Fomapan 400 = 1.7x

So recommended time for box speed (400) is 9 mins

Then for E.I: 800 (N+1) would be -

9 (mins) x 1.7 (extention factor) = 15.3 mins ( or roughly 15 or 15.5 mins)


For E.I 1600 (N+2) would be -

15 mins x 1.7 = 15.5 mins


And So On..

It can get pretty contrasty with 1+10 ratio, especially with F400 & F200, better do 1+14
and extend the stock time by 1.4 - 2.0x depending on the type of shots.

General scenes, 1.4x would work,
Hig con scenes, maybe 2.0x, experiment & adjust.

Some folks like to use the extension factor to get times for 1+14 dil too (which is also in the ball park range)
