I've always used either a 8 or 25 filter when shooting B&W, but I want to do some street photography which I don't do often. Fomapan is cheap and if I get some Foma 400 I can expose at 250 and be good to go.

I'd rather not toss a filter on there and loose another stop and (correct me if I'm wrong) a yellow filter is only really needed for the sky. So would shooting without a filter be ok?

I would test it myself, but I haven't picked up any film yet.

thanks

I shoot Arista EDU Ultra all the time without any filters and have no issues with it. If i am not mistaken it's the same stock as Fomapan.

I will use a yellow, red or blue filter occasionally to shift colors around, but most of the time I go filterless.

My more common filter is usually a polarizer or ND filter for opening the aperture on sunny days.

Fomapan 400 has a spectral response curve that tapers upward to about 720 nanometers and then falls off. It is highly red sensitive - more so than blue. It will give a "red filter" look on its own.

Shadows tend to be blue - this may be part of Fomapan 400's "lack" of shadow detail.
