Food for thought? Maybe, possibly. BUT...

If I'm right, then shouldn't you be holding back until both sides of the dispute are publicly known rather than continuing your dispute right now?
Yes. My only concern at the moment is that this thread is not deleted in order to exterminate it.

The desideratum is as many opinions as possible.

Besides, the objective is not to undo the banishment, Magus himself requested that under the circumstances (attempted coercion with insults by the site's owner, no less) he did not wish to continue.

The object of the exercise is simply to determine whether the action was just or otherwise.

That requires the input of as many RangefinederForum members that came into contact with him as possible.

And, to respond to poster iridium7777's statement above, Magus never considered that his photographs were of worth. To the contrary.

I for one, found Magus's posts increasingly bullying, intemperate and off-putting, and I was amazed that they were tolerated as long as they were, on this most polite and friendly forum. I don't know the person who called himself "Magus," and this may just be the effect of reading words on a page. Just my personal opinion.

I for one appreciated Ferider (and others on an earlier thread) for standing up to him. I appreciated, in particular, Ferider's remark, in response to some or other derogation by Magus, that politeness is not "girlie." Of course, I'm just a "girl." But this "girl" wouldn't engage a lawyer to threaten people with legal action on an internet site.

Finally, whatever was done by Mr. Gandy was done without announcement or publicity of any kind. As I see it, any harm to Magus's reputation was done by his own words, and now by yours, Bertram 3.

That's not exactly what I got by reading your first post, but if that's the case,

.... you should set up a poll. 🙂

Sir, you are very vocal.

That in itself is not a good sign.

This thread should be allowed to proceed in order to include others' opinions as well as yours.

Those offline who have repeatedly supported Magus must be allowed to state their opinions also.

I am sorry, but this is the accepted methodology.

This is the most entertaining post in a very, very long time. Thanks, Magus. Great to have you back. Don't get banned again. You do liven things up.

Wow, we just went out to do some food shopping and the RFf is up in arms! I am truly sorry to see Magus banned, he might be a bit abrasive in some of his comments, but I was never offended by him. I think we also miss a point with the Internet and forums, a large percentage of participants (including me) have mother tongues other than English and sometimes words and sentiments are more loaded than the speaker means it to be. I also think that he made a mistake in re-posting Stephen's private message in public. If it was a private message, there was a reason for it!
RFf is Stephen's domain and he can exclude or include whoever he wants and that is his prerogative.
Sometimes it is simply too easy to sit in front of a anonymous screen and type in words that you never would use in a face to face meeting. Civility always appeals to me as it allows most everybody to have a voice (exception is cell phone using drivers and bicyclists on side walks) and allows us an exchange of opinions, rather than rants.
The Rangefinder forum appeals to me because of the civility of the participants, no mudslinging or slurs, and the amount of information and help available is truly astounding.
So I hope we will try to stay that way and enjoy the exchange of ideas and information.

i actually noticed that, later on. it's sad. perhaps you as his confidant could advise him to just have fun with photography and not be so repetetive with the one sided technical regurgitation?

I have yet to "defend or condemn" Magus. I choose to defend him, even though I don't like this Bertram3 guy very much. I didn't often agree with what Magus posted and at times called him out over it, especially that Leica vs MF fiasco. If it were within my power, I would not have banned him, or FrankG for that matter, but this is not my decision to make. I must deffer to Stephen Gandy on this.

"This is the most entertaining post in a very, very long time. Thanks, Magus. Great to have you back. Don't get banned again. You do liven things up."

I wondered about that... there is a certain turn of phrase to Bertram3's posts that sounds familiar....

No duh! 🙂

He's posting from the library.

I don't know either party involved in this issue well. So I have no opinion either way. But I certainly am enjoying watching this progress. It reminds me of other forums I've been on.

My personal experience in my relatively short time here at RFF is that I have found Magus to be a very valuable poster, and I have welcomed his opinions (regardless of whether I have agreed with them or not, I have usually found them valuable).
My experience with the boss, Mr Gandy, has also been nothing but positive - I have found him to be a very courteous gentleman, and a very honourable businessman.

I agree with you. May I add a few things: it seems that each part overreacted. I can understand why Magus is pissed off (may I) by being banned while he contributed with such enthusiasm and talent. He is one of the most prolific contributor here, and he deserves some respect,, even if he speaks bluntly.
But I also understand Stephen Gandy's reaction. Such expressions as "I would gladly p*iss on Arsenal’s door" (Magus) or "Arsenal can shove their stuff up their a*se" (Bill58) are in my view not acceptable and merely not understandable from gentlemen. To be straight, I didn't understand all those hostile and offensive posts in Bill's thread on Arsenal: I don't like this compagny, fine by me; I just don't make business with them. No need to piss on them, no need to express the intention to do so. That's my opinion. So I fully understand Gandy's reaction. Besides, Gandy has a moral duty towards Arsenal as a former sponsor of RFF and as a big dealer in the small RF business. Everyone should understand that: we call that a "duty of civility".
Now, I think that banning a member like Magus is not appropriate and decent. It's too stupid for words. "Il n'y a pas mort d'homme" as we say in French: no one's hurt here! The thread should have been closed very early, since nothing good was expected to come out of it. Maybe each part could reconsider their position, and everybody here would be happy.

To Magus:
Magus, I don't think you deserved being banned, and I would be glad you come back here, but I don't think it has anything to do with the reasons you put forward. There are a lot of Leica enthusiast users here, Gandy is one of them; there are a lot of people who don't like CV lenses and who freely express their arguments against them. There are a lot of people who appreciate Chris Weeks, and Gandy's one of them (remember the contest promoted by Chris Weeks and Stephen Gandy!) ... so I don't believe at all that you've been banned for those reasons. There's no anti-Magus plot here.
A last word: Magus, I appreciate you and your technical comments but sorry my friend, I don't appreciate the ad hominem attacks. Nobody has a right to judge you, but you have no right to attack Roland (Ferider) even if you've had words with him. He is a nice person, always polite, always sharing relevant information, full of wit ... a true gentleman and a great RFF member. I had to say that.
Amitiés,
Marc-A.

But of course, 'no duh!'.

but that is not the point.

If this is an exclusive club where the owner bans someone for reasons not openly stated and by means of a private message in which the contributor is called a 'jerk', that is the point under discussion.

And Mr. Ferider indulging in defamation.

What for, one wonders?

For all this fuss to be kicked up, there must be something important at stake, is it not?

So...you kick up a fuss then state that there must be something important at stake because of the fuss?

There is nothing at all at stake here.
When this thread started, the owner of the forum had absolute authority to do with it as he wishes. Long after we stop giggling over this, he will still have that authority.
