For my kind of work: X1, M8 w 28, or Fuji?

The Fuji X100 has a fixed lens. If you want to do all your shooting at a "normal" focal length,that is fine. But why would you want to use it as your prime camera and relegate your M8 or any M to a backup? The only thing that I see in the X100 is very good looks. But a serious replacement to the M8? Never.

Well, 35mm is my preferred focal length (yes, I'm one of those lame one lens at a time guys). The fuji lens will no doubt be of sufficient quality. It will definetely have better High ISO capabilities then than the M8. AF will be welcome at times. It's smaller. etc etc.

So, basically all of the things you see as a con in the Fuji I see as a Pro. I'm sick of buying luxury cameras. I'm going to try my hardest to get away from relying on Leica. I haven't been able to yet, but the Fuji represents hope.

I have an M8 and CV28. Just got a Cron 28 and all I can tell you is that I was able to shoot at 1/20 second and get sharp images. It's a great lens. I was concerned that it would be too slow since I also shoot a lot of low light but I'm very pleased with the hit rate on its first outing.

I've pretty much discounted the M8 unless I make a windfall, as I would want an expensive Leica lens to go with it, I kind of hate most VC glass after having some wobbling experiences.

If you shop carefully and aren't buying the latest glass, you can find very good Leica (and/or Zeiss, Nikon, Canon, etc.) lenses that will not set you back a fortune.

Yes, I'd very much love even a 28mm Elmarit ASPH that's coded, but for now I'm going to make do with five lenses (two screw-mount Leica, two modern Voigtlander, and one older M-mount Leica) that cost about that much but give me lots more options.

I've been shooting an Olympus Stylus and IIIc -- they're just as small. I used to use a GRDII, that was ridiculous!

I've used the Nokton 35/1.2 on both M8 and now M9 and will definitely not part with it. For the M9 i also got a Zeiss 50/1.5 optimized for f1.5. Another one that will not leave my armoury. 🙂🙂🙂

I've had two CV 1.7s and they both fell apart. Great optically but so badly constructed that they made me sick.😡🙁😡😡

i was at singapore for work and happened to attend their IT show. Fuji had 84 batches on the first day and was sold out. I got to play with the demo.. with hordes of people waiting in line to try...

one thing i hate about it.. is the scroll wheel... it feels like it is going to fall off. maybe it was just the demo, who knows...

in sydney now... an australian camera store has 1 on display and not for sale. they are expected to have batches come in from japan but the owner said he doesnt know now cuz rumor has it the fuji plant was wiped out by the earthquake.

what about a NEX 5N or 7? you could get really good high ISO and still have your choice of lenses. since you're open to an X1, maybe this would be an ok idea.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. I change my cameras pretty frequently and have been shooting only either 35mm or 4x5.... I'm sure I'll have to get a digital again soon enough, but I would like to wait until I absolutely have to get one for a job or project, then I will get the best one for the task at hand.

Or faced with too many rolls of 35mm to scan, I curse small film again for the umpteenth time.

I would love the NEX-7 from what I've seen of the body online but the lenses are lacking and the high ISO noise isn't attractive. If at all possible I'd like to wait and see the version 2 iterations from Sony, Fuji, etc. and if Pany makes a more pro-than-sumer m4/3s body?

There is a part of me that wants to say, "F-it" and just get a Nikon D700 and 35/1.4 G lens. It would actually be really well suited for what I like to do and I love the ergonomics - everything but the weight and bulk. But even then, I'd like to know when the D800 is coming so I can buy a D700 (or two!) dirt cheap!

Lol... just get something really nice that is still going to be good in 10 years, and use it. Worked with my 5d!

The x100 is great, the d700 is great. Nikon might bring out a d800 soon, they might not. It would be at least next year. The d700 will likely not drop in value very much.
