Hi RFF fellows!

I just got a R3A and now I am looking for a some decent lenses - first of all: 35 and 50.

Some days ago I stumbled over a site where there were some lenses (from different manufacturers) with M Mount listed, which do not fit on the Bessa (because the rear lense ist to close to the shutter?).

Does somebody know these lenses?

Super Angulon 21f3,4 comes to mind. I have had some problem with the Jupiter 35f2.8 LTM mount. Depending on the lens, I have had the rear element hitting the "shelf" at the back of the mount. The Summicron DR (Dual Range) can give problem with the "shroud" around the mount - though not on all Bessa's.
Any collapsible lens should be left fully extended. Most of the Leica collapsibles dive deep enough into the "well" to hit the shelf. It doesn't damage the shutter but will 'scuff" the metal there.
With the Bessa collapsible's (Heliar 50f3.5 and f2) this has been accounted for and they can be safely be collapsed - though the price is that they are not as 'compact" as say a v1 50f2.8 or 3,5.

is there a way to modify the Summicron DR so that it will fit the R3A? I bought this lens when I got my M2 (it is such a handsome pair), but was disappointed it didn't fit the R3A. I would only consider doing such a modification if the lens continued to work on the M2.

Thanks.

Dear Michel,

Alas, not as far as I am aware. Or at least, not while retaining close focus on the M2. You need to remove part of the cam. Otherwise I'd consider one for my M8.2. When I tried it, shooting a test target and a few indoor subjects, it was stunning. I even said so in print. Then someone pointed out that if I'd tried it at infinity I'd have found it didn't work at all...

Egg on face.

Cheers,

R.

Now you can use the Summicron DR on the R3A without the eyes, correct?

Not forbidden, but when I tried Hexar 50/1.2 limited WITH ORIGINAL LENS HOOD, it blocked RF window half way. But without the original hood, it could be used with Bessa.

The Type 1 Rigid Summicron and the DR Summicron have the same Optics Module. The module actually unscrews from the mount, and can be exchanged between the two. The Type I Rigid works perfectly with the Bessa R2. I would see if someone that uses a Leica Film Camera might want to trade with you. Or, look for a Focus Mount without the optics module, or at least one with bad glass.
