foreign object on my leica

Wondered if you helpful lot could help me identify this plastic slab screwed to the top of my leica. I think it might be a generic flash conection and from what i ve been reading wasnt standard on lieca IIIc models....any help? or does anyone else have one?

You're right, and I apologize to the thread starter, although after looking closely at the pics, I am still mystified as to the purpose of that object.

I've never used one before but don't some of those clip on light meters use something like this object to diffuse the light? Except I would expect it to be aimed at the light source.(Just a wild guess.)

Looking at the open end of the holes in the second picture, there appears to be slot along one side of each hole, similar to those used in electrical connectors. I would suggest that you set the shutter speed at 1/20 or 1/30 and plug the test prods of a multimeter in the holes, with the meter set to measure continuity. If you get a meter blip or tone, then it would appear to be connections to an internal flash mechanism that has been added to the camera. It would take some further tests to see whether the timing is optimized for flash bulbs or electronic flash. It is probably one or the other, not likely for both.
