I have a 4:3 sensor format in my medium format camera. The firmware allows cropping to various ratios, all subsets of the original 4:3. I have recently seen a YT video promoting the 16:9 format as a popular format as we see it in our screens and very close to that in movie theaters. This is fine but if it is ever to be printed it will need cropping to a convenient printable crop. OTOH it is a pleasing ratio to view.

So my question is have any of you dealt with this and how? Can you get it printed? And framed?

Odd formats are not too difficult to get printed or framed, but there's no ready made frames for them. And ypu can't exactly print them from photo kiosks or similar. But any half decent printer will do it and every framer will frame it.

16:9 is a standard video format. YouTube, your TV, etc. Cinema is wider still.

You can get any format printed and framed. You likely won’t find paper in that ratio, but use the width you want and trim the height. Of course, custom framing can be done in any ratio.

I just created a video slideshow for my daughter’s wedding and cropped all the stills to 16:9 to fill the frame. It worked well. But I personally would not use it for prints. 3:2 seems just right to me.

In example this work of mine is triptych of vertical 2.7:1 pictures, it was framed in a single frame with custom passepartreu and was relatively easy framing job (for a professional framer. Printing is non applicable in this case as these were gumprints 😅 but would be just as easy, just use roll pronter and cut to lenght of larger paper and trim to size.

Right now I've been shooting a lot of 1:1 with my GFX-50R and some 4:3.... These feel most natural to me when using this camera... Maybe down the road could try some others but I like to keep things simple when it comes to this. Too many options can be distracting to me at least its good to have them don't get me wrong.
