Go into your manual it will tell you the camera will not work with cards over 2 gigs!

They should work using 1 Gb Scandisk Ultra in mine working fine, but it won't recognize anything bigger than 2 gigs? I also have a 4 gig card have not tried that one yet?emraphoto said:hi there... wen't on a bit of a trip and brought along the r-d1s. unfortuneatly i forgot my usual pack of sd cards... i tried a generic wal mart 512 mg sd card and mt r-d1s won't format? it won't even rcognize it? never had prob's before with sandisk 2 gb's? any hints?

Check the write protect tab isn't set to protect.

If the card has no formatting at all, it may have to be formatted via computer first. Then format it again in the camera. As Gid said, be sure the write protect tab has not been switched to on.
