A friend sent me this link to a series of 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 negatives, reported to have been taken in early 1900s southern California.

There's some interesting informal portraits of people and a few goldfields photos. The poster suggests they are from the Santa Barbara and San Ynez mountains and surrounding country, possibly taken with a Conley Jr.

An enjoyable browse.

(I don't know about the remainder of the site - it's just these photos that took my interest!)

Interesting photos, thanks for sharing. I actually live in Santa Barbara.

The pictures are all from around the Santa Barbara area, that's for sure. Some pictures show a rather large lake, which suggests one of two lakes, Lake Cachuma (just north of Santa Barbara) or Lake Casitas (just south of Santa Barbara).

I love the old photos...
I was born in Santa Barbara (never really lived there) but not that long ago...there were only 46 stars on that flag..a bit before my time...
