Found Olympus Stylus zoom 28-80 DX - mju zoom wide 80, any good?

Ive been running regular thrift store sordis and today came up with a Olympus Infinity Stylus Zoom 80 wide DLX. 28 - 80 How does this compare with the Epic or original infinity stylus? Any good?, worth putting battery and film in it?

Yes to both: well, no point in only one of them.

There's a press release about it out there on the web; in PBase from memory. And try Olympus' archives and, of course, our old friend Mike Butkus for the manual.

Got film in it and battery. Lenses are perfect. Whole camera is mint. no case, no strap no manual. Does anyone here have one shoot one?

are you referring to mju iii, in that case is 38-80 zoom. i have one for years and very pleasant rending of color, not as shape.
 
YES. That is a great little camera. Made in Japan? I had/have one, but I just wore it completely out. The camera and I got dunked in a wave pool too with no issues at all as it's weather sealed. Great lens for a P&S. It was pricey when new. I think mine was around $400 when I bought it new back before digital really took hold. The replacement/update(?) was not Made in Japan, came with a 28-100 lens and cost less. My results with the 28-100 camera were not even close to the results from the 28-80 camera. I stopped using the 28-100 and kept looking for the Japanese made 28-80. Never found one, so I bought a Yashica T4 Zoom with Zeiss Tessar. You have a keeper.
 
Stylus Epic Zoom 80 wide. Very good, and a little hard to find. If you are buying a zoom stylus, that would be the one to buy.
 
Is that the one with the panorama setting? My wife has/had a Stylus Epic Zoom 80, and made some amazing images. Wore it out-circular light leaks show up pretty often now, and had a loong lag.

I have a Zoom 140, also does great, also takes a long time to fire. Both were weatherproof, and pricey. Time does move on though..
 
plain Zoom 80 (non-Wide) of this generation is prone to some leaks/flare in lens, which cause artifacts in corners. But this isn't unique to Olympus. I think, it depends on construction of lens as some other makes are just fine (but may be weak in other departments).
 
I have the exact one from my parents! I ran a few rolls through it and results are fantastic. Great camera for snap shots.

it doesnt say epic on it. It says Infinity(symbol) Stylus Zoom 80 Wide DLX
then the lens says zoom 28-80mm. it has a panorama switch on it. I dont see any model number on it.

Hi,

One of the problems with Japanese cameras is that they appear with a variety of names and model numbers. Canon's "Kiss" or EOS range come to mind and the Minolta "Freedom" range for the USA and something else for us. Ditto the model numbers where the D-XXX can be the C-XX in another country.

BTW - and far more important - does anyone out there know how to get the infinity symbol up on the screen in text? Or the mju symbol without the browser crashing or worse?

That would be a mju::II Zoom 80 for the rest of the world.

I just got me a mju::V (Infinity Stylus METAL for those in ridiculous Olympus name territory), one of the last of the mju::II series, essentially a successor to the mju::II Zoom 105 with improved lens (more elements, even slower, vastly improved edge sharpness) in what looks like a solid metal original mju::II case with an extra battery hump.

It's all very confusing isn't it? especially when some one in the USA wants help and we don't know which model he means. Olympus ought to put up a table of names for us on their website. I had a press release once that almost did it but can't find it.

PS Did they do the limited edition watch in the USA? It was a mju version with the mju symbol for the figure 12 on the face from memory.
