According to the technical data provided by the respective manufacturers, both FP4+ and Fomapan 100 (35 mm) have a base thickness of 0.125 mm. I have not tried Fomapan 100, but I seem to recall reading that Fomapan 100 is thicker than FP4. Can anyone who has used these films confirm that they are of equivalent thickness?

Before I switched to Foma in 1997 I was using Ilford FP4+ and HP5+ a lot. All Fomapan 35mm films are 125um. Some manufacturers are using 135um for their 35mm film and even Rollei/Agfa Gevaert is using both 100um for their 35mm and roll film Poyester material.
Further there is a small tolerance in the basic material. My last FP4+ film and Fomapan films seems to me the same. The Rollei S series film are definately much thinner.

The only 120 films I know of that are thicker than everything else are the Kodak Tmax films. They've always been like that. I don't think I've ever seen an explanation as to why Kodak coated Tmax 100 and 400 on a thicker base than they used for Tri-X, Plus-X, Verichrome, etc. I do like it, though. The negs dry very flat and are easier to handle when loading them into a film scanner.

Dear Chris,

That and Delta 3200, which uses (or at least used -- I've not checked lately) the same base for 120 and 35mm.

Cheers,

R.
