Frame lines on QL17

Hi folks,

Just a little teething problem with my first QL17 that I'm sure will be easy to answer with all the knowledge here 🙂

The frame lines that move with the focus lever to provide automatic parallax compensation have stopped moving :bang:

Any suggestions greatly appreciated please.

I'm afraid you will have to remove the lensboard assembly to find out the cause - I can think of 3 or 4 reasons.

The brightline plate is moved by a small cam on the back of the lens - it pushes it up against a return spring as you focus towards infinity, it could be stuck with some dirt (unlikely) or the return spring has broken (possible), the plate has a small return edge on which the cam pushes, this could have broken off (unlikley) or the cam has ridden over the return edge (possible). The only way to know for sure is some level of stripping down - you may be able to see the problem by just taking off the top plate.

If you take it easy it's not too bad, but removing the leatherette is a swine - it nearly always comes off in small pieces. I think there may be some dissasembly pics somewhere on RFF - I had some, but they got deleted when my wife used the digi. sory

Perter many thanks for the bump, I was on a sleep-over shift. Also many thanks for the tips guys 😀

It's the small QL17 so very similar to the GIII. Also if the leatherette does come apart it won't matter too much as I want to recover both my QLs in a nice green kid skin at some point anyway 😉

Just got everything back together. The return spring wasn't able to push (pull) the plate down. Moved the plate a few times by hand and everything is now working again 😀

John your description lead me almost straight to the problem 😉
