Hey,

do you know of any rangefinder cameras with built-in floating framelines wider than 35mm (which would probably mean 28mm; I'm not expecting anything else to exist), apart from the Minolta CLE, Konica Hexar RF, the new Zeiss Ikon, the various Leicas and the digital Epson? (All of the above are out of my league until I sell my Mamiya 6 :D)

The reason I'm asking is because I'm wavering between that and simply using an external viewfinder for wide-angle (i.e., 28mm). My qualm about external viewfinders, however, is that the parallax problem would be much more serious when shooting close-ups than if I stuck with internal floating framelines.

I realize the cheapest and easiest way to avoid parallax (especially of the close-up kind) altogether would be to shoot SLR, but I've grown kind of fond of rangefinders, and rangefinder lenses probably have much less distortion at wide angles than even the best SLR lenses do.

Thanks for any answers and helpful tips!

I think you have the list there. You always have the option of using a Bessa (R, R2 or R2a) which does not have 28mm framelines, but the full viewfinder area approximates the view of a 28mm lens.

Thanks, Rover. By the way, I just now found out about the transaction feedback thread, and gave you a positive review.

I concur. I use the Color Skopar without a viewfinder, just the whole area around the 35mm framelines and find it quite satisfactory.

As far as I recall the Nikon SP went to 25mm -- but that would cost you more than a new MP...

Cheers,

Roger
