Framing full frame prints

Grrr... can't figure where to post this question.

Anyways, For awhile now, I have been trying to get a number of prints (12 x 8) ready for a gallery. Trying to find somewhere that has frames that will accommodate 12 x8 rather than the typical8x10. I prefer black metal frame (or silver) that measure 16x20 on the outside.

Chris Crawford mentioned a source (lost it) and I think Sam Flax might have something like that but it will take a long trip to get there which I am avoiding due to fuel costs at the moment.

Anyone have a really good quality frame source with decent prices?

Dave,

I suggest making friends within one of your local frame shop.
Get a batch order of custom size frames and/or matting and you'll get good discounts.

The key is to find such shop who appreciate local artists, as opposed to those that caters to wealthy people buying expensive paintings. It takes some searching around and multiple visits to get the sense, but once you've found one, it's worth the trouble.

Dick Blick occasionally has some pretty good sales on frames- either set sizes or just the sticks which you can assemble yourself. The wood frame sticks they have are pretty nice, not sure what their metal selection is like these days. There are several online frame retailers which have the Neilson frame sticks, some investigating once you know the style & finish numbers should be easy. Several of them have minimum orders, but it sounds like you're getting plenty to cover that. I've used American Frame in the past.

A local frame shop may be able to cut you a deal also if you're getting a bunch of things the same size- worth asking anyway- tho I'd expect you'd do better online even with shipping.

Searched on line in GB for frames I wanted.
Found quite a variety and people prepared to make frames any size.
Got a frame as a trial and was delighted.
Ordered 4 more as a result - one came with broken glass.
Having carefully stacked the other 3 as I was working at the computer I heard the glass break in another - I knew this sort of thing happened but it was a first for me.
Try the internet - you might be surprised what you find & with a follow up phone call you might get lucky.
