I just saw the news about the shooting on the campus of Northern Illinois in DeKalb. My brother attends school there and is safe. As I recall you work on campus as well. Hope you are OK after this unfortunate ordeal....

Both, my wife and I were in an underground multimedia theater, in a building that's one over the place where it all happened, listening to the scholarly presentation of a job candidate. We heard about it at probably at 3:45 PM, and we were asked to remain where we were for a while. Later we were told to leave the area and avoid Cole Hall. This was a bit difficult, because it's just one building over where we were... but we managed. The police declared it all finished at 4:15, when they said that the gunman had been found dead.
Later I learned that even though he killed himself, the police were afraid of a second shooter in the area. This stemmed from some graffitti left in a dorm bathroom last December, threatening with another shooting like the one in VT, but carried out by two.
