Hi all,

Back in December I wrote of my experience with Ritz Camera and a IIIc that began working erratically after several rolls of film. A kind RFF member suggested that I contact RC even though it was well past the return date for the IIIc. Long story short, Ritz very graciously accepted the camera for repair, opened it up and realized they sold me a turkey. As the innards of of the IIIc were shot, they ended up taking my outer shell (in great shape and recovered with Griptac) and placing it over the workings of another IIIc in better mechanical condition. So, I have a IIIc body composed of two separate cameras.

I'm aware that the resale value of this camera is significantly reduced. I am, however, considering selling it as I always reach for an M2 rather than the IIIc.
Any thoughts on what a reasonable asking price is? I'm considering something in the $150-$170 range-- but I don't see anything online to indicate whether this is too much to ask.

Thanks!

Nate

I suggest that you don't really have a problem here. From your posting, it seems unlikely that the camera is in genuinely "mint" condition, that is, a purchaser would expect that the camera is in the condition that it left Wetzlar.

When you go to sell the camera, describe it as a refurbished, fully-functional "user" ( I'm assuming here that it is in such condition). This implies that all it will do is function reliably, take photographs, and perhaps furnish a bit of pride to the new owner. Your price range seems right for IIIc user.

IMHO, you are making a MAJOR mistake selling a Barnack Leica. Keep it always.
