I just saw a free event at B&H on Thurs, June 10, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. titled "Hands-on Leica Street Photography Workshop with M9 Cameras and special Guest Lecturer Peter Turnley".

Program details and registration at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/eventDetails.jsp/id/725.

They're advertising that 50 Leica M9s will be available for the workshop photowalk around lower Manhattan.

It's free, can't see why I wouldn't enjoy it, so I've registered. Anyone else?

The full blurb from the B&H event page:

Hands-on Leica Street Photography Workshop with M9 Cameras and special Guest Lecturer Peter Turnley
Thursday, June 10, 2010 | 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Street photography captures subjects in candid situations in public environments such as streets, parks, city settings, and about town. In order to shoot candidly, a low profile, quiet, and stealthy camera is the best choice. The penultimate camera for this style of shooting has long been established as the Leica M system. Last year, Leica introduced the full frame digital M9 camera and the world of street shooting entered a new realm of digital.

This is a once in a lifetime special event brought to you from Leica Camera and B&H with special guest speaker and street photography, Peter Turnley. Leica Camera will provide 50 Leica M9 cameras to allow a hands-on experience capturing the city on a photo walk around mid-town Manhattan. To help you make the most of your M9 photo walk, we will commence the day with two lectures. The first will be an instructional lecture on the M9, making you a veritable expert on the camera system and menus. Following this, Peter Turnley will share his astounding tips that will propel you into the next stratosphere of street shooting. After the photo walk, attendees will be encouraged to upload their photographs to the B&H Event Space Flickr Group where a panel of experts will judge images and prizes will be awarded.

The loaners of the Leica M9 kit are limited and attendees must present a valid driver’s license or state issued i.d. as well as a major credit card in order to participate. In addition, an SD memory card will be needed (which may be purchased in the store on the day of event).

Wow, they gonna have 50 (sample) cameras for that? Wow! I'd say color me sceptical... but yeah, I guess that's what it says.... Still, trust me, it would be difficult to even arrange 50 D300's let alone M9's, and with current demand (i mean backorders)...

It says space will open for no shows. I'm guess there will be a few especially if this event required no payment to register. And what if you already own an M9? Do you have to use theirs?

Oh I get it, Photoshop. Still not 100% sure, but there's a photo of a street covered in snow and girls in summer dresses. Well done if it is.

No wonder they are out of stock everywhere. all the M9s that were made in last 2 months will be at B and H

Already fully booked. Bummer!!

I heard through the grapevine that just across in NJ, there is a similar event at BergenCountyCamera on June 7th. Not sure about what the event involves but I do know there will be some M9s to be lent out.
