Free webinar Peter Karbe M Lens Design

From the Australian Leica Academie, an M or S lens design free webinar with Peter Karbe.

I don't know if it is geo blocked, but it has twitter and facebook share links.....

Have a go ya mug, as we say here, in a different context!

Thanks for posting. It’s not geo blocked, but it’s at 3 AM where I am, which is right somewhere at the intersection of either too late at night or too early in the morning for me, but should be interesting even if it’s just marketing.

I think you can watch it later om youtube. Of course without interactions, Q&A.

One could ask him, what he thinks of this statement:

PR: While being limited to a few special lenses 40 years ago aspherical elements are now pretty common in most lenses with focal lengths up to 85mm. Often these aspherical elements have a detrimental influence on the bokeh rendering of the lens and lead to “onion ring” like patterns in out of focus highlights. Could you tell us why this is barely a problem with your 15mm 2.0 despite it using 2 aspherical elements?

Mr. Li: “Onion Rings” are caused by rough surfaces on aspherical elements. The smoothness and cleanliness of the surface of these elements determines the degree to which you will see onion rings. Another factor which affects the degree to which we will see onion rings is the positioning of aspherical elements in the optical system. We have dealt with both factors in designing the 15mm 2.0, and so have successfully avoided this issue.

I'm certainly aware that our Downunder times are inconvenient for many in the Northern hemisphere - I've stayed up way too late on occasion to try to catch a livestream happening overseas.

Here is the YouTube channel where some of previous the webinars have been placed.

As a Leica channel, it of course focuses on their products. I haven't found that too jarring, accepting that I'll likely never own the cameras they are using or talking about from new, but I enjoy the occasional discussion about M (any rangefinder) vs S etc choice of kit.

They also discuss basic to more advanced photographic techniques, and interview guest photographers. There's probably something of interest for everyone in there, and good on Leica for providing this content when some of us are in COVID lockdown. I'm sure the other big manufacturers are making similar which is a blessing.

Thanks for tipoff. Hopefully its not a rehash of the one leica singapore thats is already available on youtube

I once listened to Peter Karbe for 80 minutes in person when we visited Wetzlar. I enjoyed every minute of it, but my family got quickly bored.

I remeber that meeting Raid, it was interesting but too technical for non photographers, Simo felt as your family !

Peter Karbe knows how to explain the Leica lenses.
