Well-known
I picked up a book called "Photographing The World Around You" by Freeman Patterson from a used book store. It was $2 so I said why not.
Anyway, the other day I tried to read it but the writing was so horrid that I simply tried to look at the pictures in the book.
Most of the pictures were basically your staple flicker stuff. Stream shot in a slow shutter, close up of some fence, back lit tree etc... anyway, then I reach the final section and there was picture of a biker guy with his shirt open.
Then, to my surprise there were three or four pictures of the same guy without his shirt, flexing and in pretty awkward poses...
To make the matter worse, Mr. Patterson had provided one paragraph commentary on each photo going on and on about his 'art' and describing the biker guy's back muscles for example as a "living sculpture"... :bang:
I don't know WTH (what the hell!
) Patterson was thinking,
not only that these shots were overtly homoerotic, they were terrible and not artistic at all. How could this guy print those ordinary pictures and sell it as an "example of his art" is beyond me.
Anyway, this book is not recommended at all and i don't know any other book by this photographer but after going through his pictures in this book, I would never even consider another one of his books.
/I used the smilies more frequently to infuse some emotions in my post.

I have several of Patterson's books. Photography and the Art of Seeing, Photography of Natural Things, and The Garden are books I look through frequently.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I attended a lecture given by Freeman Patterson and actually enjoyed it and came away with a little more knowledge on photography. OTH I have a book of some of HCB work and don't care for it much.

I wonder why it was only $2?

I don't know why I always expect to like everything a person does, simply because I liked a few things. But I do expect that - no matter how irrational - and feel let down slightly when I'm not satisfied. My most favorite people in my life occasionally disappoint/upset/etc., as I surely do the same for them. Guess that's life
