Freezing

Is it all right simply to put my film in any freezer with other things, like meat, bread and ice blocks or must I use a special container or freezer?

Yes, but mark the bag clearly 'FILM' because you don't really want to microwave it by mistake.

Sure, but I would put the boxes or rolls of film into ziplock bags (or similar) to avoid moisture getting into the film, since the moisture could crystalize into ice. Also, assuming you have a modern "no frost" fridge, don't put the film on the bottom of the freezer compartment, since the "no frost" is achieved by periodically, briefly warming the bottom of the compartment to thaw out the developing frost/ice. I have done this for years with my slide film of all formats...

By the way, I have always heard that B&W should not be frozen, since it can "blow up" the grain - is that true or just a myth?😕

absolute myth. subjecting b&w film to cold should not somehow change the nature of the silver grains themselves.
