These portraits are from a special day in Hendaia. It was the second sunday of August (some years ago). This day, every year, we celebrate "The Basque Festival".
181: The sailors of the L'Hermione sing "Txoria txori" to the people that is waiting for them. It was a very special moment.
"Txoria txori" is a song of Mikel Laboa based on a poem of Joxean Artze. This poem is about freedom and possession, dominance and respect between people and animals. There is a dilemma, when you love a person—or an animal—you have to choose between tying the person up and possessing them as if they were a bird in a cage, which stops them being the bird that fascinates us, or loving them. the person as they are, enjoying their natural way of being, and respecting it, so that if they want to leave, they can leave at any time.
If you want to listen this song, here you have: "Txoria txori". And if you want to read the words in basque and in english, here you have it.
