So I need a front cap for my Canon 50/1.2. With the 55mm threads, I was hoping one of the snap-in front caps made for FD lenses would work, but looking at the inside of the cap, it just may hit the front element of the lens, just as some filters do. I've seen references to 55mm screw-in front caps on ebay, but again, the front element may be in danger there. Are there any inexpensive push-on caps which fit around the outside of the filter threads?

The only place I've seen original 50/1.2 caps for sale is kevincameras.com, but they're not cheap.

A generic push-on plastic cap will work fine if you can find one. You need one with an inside diameter of 57mm.

Or, I have a Hoya filter parked on my 50/1.2. Do the same and snap the generic cap onto that.

I own the original Canon 50/1.2 lens hood. It is a very nice one in its leather case. I think, this lens hood is hard to find and rather expensive.
