Hello everyone,

I'm tempting to swap a the front element from my scrap GS to a good working original electro 35 "G" (with strangely ... terrible scratches on the front element).

-The question is are they interchangeable (just the front glass only) ???
-Can you swap the ASA unit from GS to the G by just cut and reconnect the appropriate wires or is there more work besides that.

thanks in advance

Thanks Dave, just swapped both the lens and metering system and reconnect the wire base the the "root" not by color code. The camera responded to light and the speed is pretty accurate (comparing with the GSN you overhauled). test the first roll today, let's see how it come out..:)

Thanks again Dave

Hi Dave, got the test roll back, the meter is perfect ( I used kodak 800 - so the meter swapping from GS to G is OK), but all of the pix are out of focus, (I used front element from the G lens on the GS lens and place that whole GS lens unit on the G body). Any thought on this Dave ?

Thanks again,

Henry

Or maybe a depth-of-field problem? I've swapped lens elements around quite a bit and haven't had any problems. The other day I thought I had a problem until I realized I was shooting right at the edge of the red light so my aperture was pretty big and my DOF went out the window.

As far as the rangefinder is concerned, there is a bit of slop when the screws are loose so it is indeed possible that it was reinstalled in a different position. When I reinstall a rangefinder, I focus on something at a known distance and, if it doesn't match, I loosen the screws and move the entire unit around. Usually works, even if the RF is from a different camera.
