I like mine better.

youre talking about the ridge on the mount under the optics themselves right?I made an Industar-69 work with a Leica mount camera.
LOTS of filing on the internal mount to remove a physical stop, you have to get the optics about 1mm closer to the film and then reset the distance scale. I traded it to someone using an M8.
How did it work after that , i just took it apart to see what it looked like , how does one go about resetting the distance scale
The ridge is what I filed off. The focus ring comes off, is held on by the set screws. Under it are some stop screws. They will have to be filed down. I used a through the lens viewer to get the lens to focus to infinity, then put the focus ring back on.

i ended up giving it a shot, granted i have no through the lens viewer, i followed your about a mm filed down method , if it works, awesome , if it fails miserably it was only like $20
1955 KMZ J-3 on my Contax II. At F4, prefocussed, and waiting for Nikki to Heely into range.
Shimmed for the camera. This used to be an LTM lens, left over from a Sonnar conversion that I did for an RFF'r.

I had this in another forum, but maybe it is better placed here. I was not sure what I had in FSU lenses, so I checked things out.
Brian,
My J-3 is from 1956 and not 1955 and it is not from KMZ. My J-8 is made in 1955 though.
I weighed all my FSU & CZJ 50mm lenses on a postal scale. There may be room for some error, but it is an OK scale.

I miss the J-3 LTM that I sold here. I wonder where it is now.

Well-known
I-61 L/D and Jupiter-8 and Helios-103 for Kiev mount are still available as "new old stock". I've bought an unused -92 Jupiter-8 recently. It is a very good allround lens stopped down a little.

I finally got around to getting that roll processed and I'm pleased with the results, this example focuses to infinity and is relatively sharp wide open. Pictures to follow, I really enjoyed the results @ f1.5 through its range and it renders well with color film. One of my best FSU lenses purchased on Ebay , the others were through fedka. The I-61 was cheap and but the front element is pretty beat up , so ive never even tried it.

Heres one @ f4 or 5.6 , i forget where it was when I shot this
I have to scan the shots from wide open, i really love this lense. Its one of my favorite buys lately
Some wide open shots
At min focusing distance wide open
One more wide open
Now its time to get a better scanner, i am now equipping myself with the necessary items to process color as well as black and white film, this forum has taught me so much.

Im happy with this lense for sure, now that i know i dont really have to work on it.
The scanner cuts into the sharpness on the wide open shots , so theyre not as good as i'd like but, for a $30 scanner im not going to complain too much.
Next step Epson scanner.

A standard J-3 focuses to just less than 3ft.
You can modify it to get down to ~2.5ft, some filing is involved.
