I just won't be able to play.
The reason I haven't picked up a FSU body is because I'm thinning out my kit. I kept my P and the three Russian lenses because I think it's the best kit for me. The camera body *is* no more than a light tight box to put the film in...it's the lenses that really matter. And sometimes, as I've proven (at least to myself) with the toy camera I used for the Point and Shoot contest, even the lenses don't matter.
The only way I'd pick up another FSU camera is if I could find a Fed-2 with an Industar-22 on it.

Steph, If you really want to play, and if this contest gets off the ground, I will offer you the use of my Fed 2l for the duration of the contest, you can put any lens you want on it, I would be either shooting with my Zorki or my Kiev anyway.

still no definite rules. and still waiting for Jorge to answer if we are allowed to do this. also contest will start after HCB contest is finished.
btw. i contacted few sellers of fsu gear to become sponsors of contest. so in a few days we will know if they want to help this thing out with some symbolic prize.

Right. Any word from Jorge? How would it be judged and who would the judges be?
Sounds fun though. I also agree that the lens and body should be FSU, especially if there aren't any other thematic limitations. The idea of a Gordy camera strap prize sounds good: simple, useful, and inexpensive. If the winner doesn't need a strap, then maybe a few rolls of film or a filter or something small.

I think the best prize would be a set of small screwdrivers, preferable russian made, probably the most useful accessory for FSU gear.
Then again, i think I have heard somewhere that the traditional tool for repairing FSU gear is the common kitchen knife.....

my autofocus is broken.
Screwdrivers would be a godsend! That's a brilliant idea!
Not that the prize really matters -- my Zorki just needs some exercise!

Or a spanner wrench?
EDIT: I just had a better idea: Vodka! Fun as well as useful for repair and maintenance.

Basically, anything that's equally FSU as the cameras we're using would be a great prize for a contest like this.
Alternatively, an Oleg CLA would be a fitting prize as well.

Screwdrivers, spanner sett, depth guage and a good bottle of vodka to clean the gears.

Allright, I was going to wait until Jorge gave his OK before saying this but as it seems to be running away.... I also think this should be thought about and set up after the HCB competition is over.
Anyway, providing Jorge is happy and nothing is done until the "real" comp is over, I will donate a coloured Fed 2 and I26 as a prize. I will even ship it to the winner.

WooHoo! Way to go Kim!
Now, if I can only win this, I can have my Fed 2 AND not have to sleep on the couch!

It sounds like fun. Who cares what the prize is.
The prize is the fun you have doing it surely?
But I think there needs to be nice clear rules
How about having a list of bodies and lenses that are allowed
and let users choose whatever combination they want out of it
also using only standard lenses. so no wide or telephoto ones.
It'd be good also to have a theme. not just 'street photography'
that theme is busy right now!
and should folk be free to choose colour or b&w or should it be fixed at the start?
It'd be more fun if as much as possible, the field is levelled.
Knowing that there are users on this site from all corners of the world, I think it'd be really interesting to see how they would all interperet something and see the differences they'd come up with. It'd be as much fun to watch as it would to take part.

I'm being honest here - I don't even have an FSU body at the moment, only a J-8. So I'm not just talking in my own favor - I think it's just required to narrow the theme a bit. I agree with Brett.
If this happens, I'll have to search a cheap and quirky FSU body..
I love justifying GAS in the form of a contest!![]()
PM me your address and I lend you a Zorki 4 with a verticaly misaligned rangefinder

Of course the fun is in the shooting. But a chance to win a camera and a strap is fun too!

Hey,
Why not take your FSU gear out and shoot some street scenes. A ZI is a much better prize.
Once the official RFF contest is over you can worry about this one if Jorge gives his go ahead.

I agree with some of what you say, but since the current contest is "normal lens only" I think many of us would welcome a little freedom in that department. I think it would be better in general to avoid repeating the previous contest in any aspect. I like themes, but more as guidelines/suggestions/inspirations rather than restrictions, although if a theme has been declared I see nothing wrong with bias toward thematic entries over ones that are not, say in a tiebreaker situation.

what about a general theme?
what about a general theme?
I'm definitely on board! Only FSU rangefinders, body and lens.
Is there any theme? I suggest "Working class" or more widely "working world"? That would be appropriate for an FSU camera photo contest. That's just an idea.
