You can look through the viewer, which gives a narrow-ish angle of view (~11 degrees IIRC), or you can flip down the diffuser and take an incident reading. Then spin the wheel until the LED goes on (or off) and read off the exposure.

Mine seems very accurate, even in low light.

Mmmm, what's that extra little box for, more batteries? do you need it (I've seen some for sale without the box)?

The box is a battery pack for 3 AA batterys , it does tend to make the meter a bit cumbersome but is usefull if you can't find the correct voltage button cell,s .

I have one of these, a very light selenium meter from the former GDR. It is quite acurate. Haven't used it often, but it works fast too.
I went out shooting today with an old Seconic (selenium). But I don't really like it. It is a bright and sunny day here, but most shots where taken with 100 and aperture 8 as the meter showed me for a 27 iso film

I got a Leningrad 6 from a US seller for $3 +ship. a month ago on the bay. Put in a 1.5 button battery like that goes in my QL-17 and so far works fine. Did have to make slight mod. to make batt. fit. Thank GOD for tin foil😀

I've got a very nice selenium Sekonic, very accurate, the only thing to do is matching the green needle with the red one. But hre is the problem : you need to turn a dial, and it's veeery stiff... I dunno whether it's specifficaly linked with my lightmeter, or with the particular model, and it doesn't matter much to me in fact...
I used to use (before sombody dropped it on a table) a very very small Bewi Automat, a kind of press button model, but I never knew whether it was accurate or not since the only film I shot with was the first I had ever processed, and hadn't converted cl in ml for my chemistry... it was turned into a nice blue and wet sheet of plastic... 😀
