Hi all,
Not to cast aspersions on DVDTechnik at all, but do people think that the two cameras linked below are fakes? They look like they could well be FED or Zorki 1s that have been altered to look like Leicas.

one is a Zorki 1 and the other is a Fed 1 all have the bullsh!t engraving and phoney period serial nr.
A real IIIc would have a slow speed dial and a few other things.
They get away with the deception by stating "copy" in the headline but fail to mention it in the crapola history feelgood write-up, plus the low price reflects the fact it is not the genuine article.

I think the word "copy" spells it out pretty well. If I were to paint a copy of a Matisse painting, that's what it would be, a copy. It's only a fake if I try to pass it off as a real Matisse. In the art world it's not even referred to as a copy, it's called "after". It would be a painting after Matisse, meaning in the same style.
At least this seller is truthfully posting the camera as a copy. Many of these things are sold as real Leicas by other less scrupulous sellers.

Well, the 'Navy' one is a Zorki and the 'RAF' one is a FED. Interestigly, both have the wrong rangefinder housing for their respective models so they are both made from parts ('bitsas'). It does say 'Copy' in the title but there's scant mention in the waffle and the lens is described as an Elmar when, clearly, it isn't. The whole ads could have been written with more honesty...

Yes, a Fed 1 (G) and a Zorki 1 (C).
It's the shape of the r/f housing which interests me. Both have the later style of Fed 1 (B) semi-circular shape under the shutter speed dial. Has someone started re-manufacturing these housings for the counterfeit market? It's hard to believe a stock of NOS housings has been unearthed 80 years after they were made and in the UK these early Feds sell for more than the asking price of DVD's fakes so, surely, it's unlikely that early cameras are being dismantled and restamped?
Another anomaly is the Zorki 1 (c) chassis has - apparently - the later (Zorki 1 type E) shutter speed range...
DVD should be utterly ashamed of this duplicity.

Seems like a copy would have the same outline and features. "Tarted-up cheap Russian bogus fake" probably wouldn't sell as well. Trap for newbies.
