Fugi 690 III in Storage - Shutter Tripping.

Hi!
I have a Fugi 690GW III and GSWIII which I wish to put into storage for a while (no I've not gone digital, but I'm going through a 35mm RF phase). Has anybody any information on how often the shutters should be exercised? I have done this a couple of times😕 , but no matter whether the back door is left open or what, it still adds to the number of shots recorded on the meter thus drawing the time when they will be requiring a service ever nearer. It would also effect the resale price of course ( not that I can imagine wanting to sell).

This is a conundrum that I just cannot solve. Has anybody any advise please!

Gosh Floyd, I wouldn't think that the number of exercises would be THAT much to worry about? Let's say you exercised the camera quarterly...I'm guessing that would only add about 50 or so activations per year? Doesn't seem like that would put it anywhere NEAR needing a CLA or service all that much sooner?

I kept a Yashica Mat in storage for 3 years. Went through all the speeds every time the Daylight Savings Time came and went (twice yearly). It seemed to be enough, as the Mat was just fine when I started using it again.

It is very easy to reset the odometer on these Fuji GW/GSW690 cameras. Just unscrew the bottom plate and press the little black button next to the counter.

There is a lot of bulls**t about these odometers on the net. Your Fuji won't cease fonctionning when the counter reaches 999 (which represents 9990 shots). The counter was designed as a rough indicator of the number of exposures taken to help professional users to plan for servicing. For amateur usage, this counter is of very little use.

One last point: don't ever trust the number on the odometer when buying an used MF Fuji, as it is just too easy to tamper with.

Thanks all! Especially you Abbazz, that knowledge is indispensable - I had always thought that once it hit 999 that was it, either get it serviced or it's throwaway time! And with Fugi no longer offering services I had begun to wonder where that would leave me. Now I can 'excercise' my shutter as often as I wish!😀
