I have just got back into the Fuji universe with a used XT2. I got an XC15-45 with it for a great price.
I have also just acquired the 10-24 and 55-200.
I don't particularly like the power zoom on the 15-45, but it is a sharp and light little lens for walking around and casual shooting so I think I will keep it.
I used to have the 18-55 which I thought was a great lens, but I am also hearing good things about the 16-80. I had intended just to get another used 18-55, but I am torn now between that and the 16-80 (I also have heard that there is a lot of copy variation with the 18-55 although my previous one was excellent). I am just wondering if anyone else has/had both lenses and tended to go for one rather the other. Is the 16-80 really that good? Is the weight a lot more than the 18-55? \
So the 18-55 is cheaper used, faster at the wide end and lighter vs the 16-80 with great reach, but heavier and constant f4.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Zoom lenses tend to be more susceptible to sample variation than prime lenses due to their complexity.

I have the 18-55 hat came with my X-E1 as a kit, and bought the 16-80 in 2019. I haven’t used the 18-55 since getting the 16-80, and could probably live with just that lens most of the time. I now have an X-E3, with grip, and several primes, so I could pair the 16-80 with my 23/2, 35/1.4 or 50/2 if I needed a faster lens. The 16-80 is a bit big for an X-E, but would probably match well with an X-T.

Thanks, Drew. I am leaning towards the 16-80mm after reading more reviews. I have a couple of primes on the way as well (35/2 and 50/2).

I just bought the Fujinon XF 16-80mm f4 lens and I took it to the beach today.

In my opinion, the XF 2.8/16-55 is a superior lens. Some find it 'too sharp'; others find it 'too heavy', or 'too big'. To each his own. Cheers, OtL

nobody special
I bought the 16-80 a few months ago. I am still trying to love it but it is so big, bulky, and heavy. Now I am a one prime guy and find I do better with one focal length and feel comfortable using it in every situation. But that is just me, YMMV. So my problem with the 16-80 would relate to any zoom. If you deal with zoom lenses OK, you should get along with this one.

These are great Mike - how long are the exposures and what ND filter do you use?
It’s a shame that the platform is off limits - it looks like it would be fun to explore.

I used a Kenko PRO ND 1000 and a Kenko ZX C-PL filter.
It was a 50 second exposure. The wind was blowing pretty good so I had to sit on my butt on the beach with the tripod as short as I could make it.
In the summertime the kids swim out and crawl all over that thing.
All the best,
Mike
