Fuji 18mm Lens Queery

My 18mm is extremely noisy when focussing, even in "S". Do you find this as well?

Since u have the zoom as well, is it as noisy? Since it uses a different af motor, I wonder how much of noise is associated w/ the motor versus the rest of the focus mechanism..

the zoom is quiet...except for the squeeky noise it sometimes makes. the difference is dramatic...

dramatic may be too dramatic a word to use...on the street no one is going to notice the sound of any of the lenses in action.

Noisy focusing ? Squeaks ? Yes, and then there's slapping mirrors, clanging shutters and whirring motordrives to contend with.

I often get nostalgic for the times when photography was virtually silent.

My Voigtlander Prominent is so damned quiet, a mouse fart is deafening by comparison...

there have been several reports re. the squeeky zoom but i think this is more of an anomaly than a standard...
eventually i'll contact fuji and ask them about it.

What do you mean by "extremely"? Can you compare it with other autofocus lenses?

Xf lenses make a louder noise than, by example, Canon USM lenses, but are more silent than Canon non USM lenses.

The 18 and 35 are a little noisy... zoom much quieter. My 18 is very sharp (frequently used wide open...).

My Fuji lenses have gotten quieter the more I use them.

My 18 is pretty quiet; my 35 a bit less so. They both rattle their apertures a bit but nothing like under firmware 1.0. It doesn't bother me and my subjects don't notice it.
