Fuji 23mm f1.4 X Series Lens is out

Wow - even if it's comparable to SLR versions in size, it dwarfs the 35 Summilux ASPH.

Performance numbers look first rate.

Well it looks like they priced it strategically on the high side to avoid canibalizing x100s sales.
Honestly I'm more contemplating getting the latter .
I don't think one stop and extra bulk will be missed when you get Phase Detection af and a leaf shutter :D

Looks like a super lens. Look forward to see what everyone produces with it!

I simply don't like APS-C because I think the manufectures have the most benefit from it.

I mean there are all these nice EVF cameras, but no manufacturer is willing (or able?) to offer a fullframe system. The only manufacturer that does so is Leica. A manufacturer which defenitely hasn't such financial power.
I have seen the example shots from the new Fuji lens and they look good - yes. But they look "flat" and I think with at least a 35mm sensor would create more death/3D-look. And sometimes I think the small format requieres more software correction. I always have these software corrections turned off, because I want to know, how good my lens realy is. I think we would benefit from a larger format like 35mm.
 
did anyone notice how much better Fuji's sample shots are than most companies?

as far as size, if you want to improve IQ in a lens you have to relax one of your constraints; size/weight, speed, image circle, price. Leica has a complete hard-on for small size and you are paying the $ to support the manufacturing process that that requires. FWIW when they release that constraint you get the Leica R teles which in some cases are still simply the best ever made. There is an APO Vario-Elmarit in the classifieds that still has not been surpassed from an IQ standpoint.

I can understand that. I don't agree completely, but there is no denying that having to use wide angles as normals will require corrections to the lenses. I just truly think the Fuji files hold up to the last generation of DSLR (D700, 5d MKII, etc).

reduced or at 100%?

because the files still look bad to me at 100%. if you reduce to the point where you have combined the bayer matrix array then sure they definitely do compete.
 
At 100% and printed large (20x30"). It so funny that some hate the Fuji files and some love them. I love them.

I actually hired a 7d to use on a job the other day alongside my x-pro1. When I looked at the files comparatively, the ones from the 7d look like a dogs dinner in comparison to the fuji files. So its definitely a step up from the usual aps-c sensor quality.

Its not far off from my 5d3 either. Very close.

I dont know...
- Canons 35mm f1.4L is 1500us
- nikons is 1600us,
- zm biogon 35mm f2 is 1050us
- zf distagon 35mm f1.4 is 1850us
- nikon 24mm f1.4 is 1999us
- sony 24mm f1.8 is 900us, a stop slower, and with no mechanical focus ring or aperture ring.

Really it is actually extremely well priced for a 35mm f1.4 equivalent lens. probably it will be optically better than all the above too.
 
John, I feel the same..
The Fuji files do hold up well to the last generation of DSLR's..
