Fuji F30 "Natural mode"

Most interesting mode I've seen on a p&s: in this mode, you initially have less control over the settings but you get 2 photos, the first is just some auto programmed exposure like 2.8 / 1/200 / ISO 800 (note the relatively high ISO), then a 2nd shot, which appears to me that modes (color / b&w) and EI may come into play:

It appears that with color, and in low light, where that above example setting might be the first shot, the 2nd shot would enable flash, 1/2 the shutter to maybe 1/100, and halve the ISO to 400.

In color, but with some sunlight and more light, it seems to retain the first initial shutter speed, but use a decreased ISO with the 2nd flash shot.

In b&w mode, it seems to still enable the flash on the 2nd shot, but with a lot of light, it keeps all 3 exposure settings intact, just slightly underexposing the first, and giving quite a bit of "fill" to the 2nd shot.

Anyone else observe things with the "natural" mode. Quite intruiging. I may end up keeping this little guy.

Fuji F30 is a very nice camera. Did you keep it?

You would be mad to get rid of the F30, they cost next to nothing, and on image quality (even at low iso) give a good run for their money to much more expensive cameras.

Certainly my F31 at iso 100 is as good as my Panny LX1 at iso 80 (cleaner images on the F31 but marginally less sharp), however from ISO 200 onward we are on different planets, ISO 1600 looks almost as good as the R-D1 at the same speed!

The only two things that stop me from flogging the Panny on the eboy are the LX1 wide angle (28mm equiv) and the absence of RAW on the Fuji.

I'm very glad I kept it, and may try to find another. I like it better than the f31/41 for it's in-camera noise behavior.

Fuji F30 is a very nice camera. Did you keep it?

I have the F10 and I love it! Really nice noise behavior. If only I had some manual control 🙁

So, how's the autofocus on these Fuji's? (F10/F20/F30 etc)..

Interesting cameras for their high ISO performance, but can they focus fast in places where you need the higher ISO's?

I got the F11 and yes they focus in less than a 1 sec.
Faster if you use the Green Iluminator (I don´t, in dark places it looks like a lighthouse!).
Allways in my left pocket.

Autofocus is just average: great in normal lighting conditions, and poor in poor light. Its not really feasible to always use the illuminator (e.g. in the street).

But the sensor is so good that I can't but love the camera. I use 800 ASA even on a sunny day and when I'm outside!

BTW, I think F10 has the most handsome look among the F series cameras (both from back and front)...sad to see they kinda changed the look for F30 etc.

AF seems good to me, much faster than the *istDL with kit lens in low light, rarely get oof shots in bright light, even when moving rapidly.

The only time I feel the F30 is sluggish is in macro (not suprising)

However it is pretty quick

I went to a BU vs. UNH game in February, it kept up real well (shot in ISO 800)

Very nice shots!

I'm somewhat on the look-out for a cheapish and very compact P&S, but I'm wary of poor autofocus. Especially when there's no manual mode to set infinity or hyperfocal..
