I understand that Fuji's plant in the UK was destroyed in the recent Oil refinery fire at Buncefield. I don't know how Fuji organize their production and distribution network, but it seems there is potentially an adverse effect on film availability. I wonder if anyone knows more, or if the factory that was destroyed was not in fact to do with film production?

Hi,
I think this was their processing plant. At the moment I have my fingers crossed. The first film from the Canon VI-L was sent there the day before!! :bang:

Fuji Electronic Imaging’s R&D facility

Fuji Electronic Imaging’s R&D facility

Nothing on the Fuji UK sites, so simply & quick check with google, shows it was the Fujifilm Electronic Imaging’s R&D facility HERE

More about it - and Kodak & Epson - from the AP HERE

Thanks for the info. It does seem that there is only a tenuous link with the film & processing side for Fuji. Hemel Hempstead used to be where Kodak processed Kodachrome, but I think they moved it some time ago as I recall. I think however the reports stemming from the companies involved are possibly a tad optimistic of the 'We are getting on with things' variety however. I was listening to Radio Four this morning and the impression was much grimmer. I can back this up to a certain extent because some years ago I had a business in an industrial area of Peterborough when there was an explosion which was caused by a truck full of fireworks catching fire. The resultant damage over a wide area resembled the London blitz in places, and some businesses never went back.

I used to do freelance work for a publishing company in the area in the late 80's and early 90's. I'm quite pleased that Fuji are likely to be unaffected and that film & processing should be ok over the festive period, although I do of course extend my sympathies to those affected by this huge fire.

Yes, it then went to Paris and is now Lausanne, Switzerland - preferably directly. My last film from them back here in ~1 week.

Details here
