Wondering how necessary the hood is with the Bessa iii W. I'm shooting mostly b&w with it, so often a filter. Won't have darkroom time for seeing anything for another few weeks. Anyone here start without a hood and decide it was a necessity? Or anyone just quit using the hood?

I have only used the hood with a filter, which I only just started doing for landscape photos, more as an experiment than a necessity. The lens is quite contrasty and it's nearly impossible to cause it to flae, so the hood is to my mind only a quick way to pop a on and off a filter.

Actually just realized you are asking about the wide version - I have the regular one, so popping on and off a hood is more of a solution given the inability to collapse the lense with afilter attached....
