FUji GF670 price in Japan

My friend Richard in Kyoto confirms the price in Japan is 220,000 yen, about $2320 or so. Total bummer, that takes it out of my range by $1000.
The very well-heeled and the "must-have-at-any-price" Fuji fans will bite, but I doubt the initial run of 500 cameras will sell out, given the world economy.
A folder is not the best street camera, anyway (he said wistfully).

You really think that in the whole wide world, there aren't 500 people who will pay $2400 for a fancy folding camera? Forget the whole world, there are 30 million people in Tokyo/Yokohama/Chiba. This thing will definitely sell out. And Japan's economy is doing relatively well if I'm not mistaken, compared to the West's economy.

Still, sucks it costs so damn much.

The price is slightly higher than I expected, but I'm hopeful that there will be another run at a lower price. Remember how much the Bessa R/T/L originally cost?

There are a number of alternatives available. There are the Fuji Texas Leicas (GW670, GW 690 and GSW690), there is the Mamiya 7 and then there are the Rollei TLRs. If you trace an original Mamiya 6 with 75mm, that even folds. Lots of options for people on a budget and no reason not to take photographs.

the japanese economy has been in the crapper since the mid-late 90s and things aren't going to change any time soon.. having said that, I have no doubt this limited edition camera will sell out...

I'd rather find a used Mamiya 7II for that price.

Unless there is a lower price for the Bessa version outside of Japan, this will be a very tough sell.

If the dual format were 6x7 and 6x9 - I might of busted a nut to scrape 2K in USD.

the price is not so bad, because you get 2 cameras with a superb lens!
the price for a used fuji gw and gsw in perfect condition is more then the half price of the new fuji. it can be that the fuji or voigtländer is cheaper in europe or us...

Mistaken you are! None the less, they will still sell out eventually. Mind you, the m8 has only sold, what 20,000-ish units in over two years now (so I hear, correct me if I'm wrong), it could take a while to sell 5,000 units. As I said in another thread, it's a damn expensive meter upgrade on an Ikonta, makes that little VCii meter look positivily cheap!
