Is the rangefinder/viewfinder of the Fuji GS645 folder oriented in portrait or landscape mode when the camera is held in its normal position, i.e. with the controls on top and the shutter button at the top right? Thanks for your help.

Portrait.
Some people find it awkward; personally I find it no more or less awkward than 'normal' cameras.
Wish it shot squares...

Bryce,
Thanks for the quick response. So, when you shoot in landscape mode how awkward does it feel to rotate the camera? I know this is a subjective question, but almost 90% of my shots are landscape, so that's mostly how I would be using it.

Due to the viewfinder being at the edge of the camera body I find it very comfortable to use landscape.

All of the Fuji 6x4.5 cameras are portrait orientation. Like anything else, you get used to it. Personally, I like it because I shoot equal amounts of vert vs. horiz shots.
Fuji 645Zi is my favorite camera - period.
