Fuji instax

I saw someone using an Instax on Alcatraz about a week ago. I like the idea of instant photography, but those cameras are pretty ugly (the 'piano black' one is quite nice). But this new one I think is just lovely looking, and I'll likely end up with one.

The Impossible Project is doing great work, but I can't help but think the Fujifilm stuff is more practical, especially for a newcomer to instant like me.

i used the pro version of the instax wide,
the Fuji 500AF once and I hope they
will make a better camera for the instant films.

I almost bought one last year, but found that you could not turn off the flash ! !
Looks like fun, but full-time flash ???
This has a "flash control", but have to wait and see what that means.

The full-time flash is lame. I'm guessing Fuji did that because they wanted to have the point-and-shoot market covered. My personal preference is to never use a flash...on any camera. So with my 210 I cutout a piece of milk jug (the opaque plastic) and fixed that over the flash. That mutes it a lot. I originally thought about putting some gaffer tape over it but the milk jug plastic seems to work well. It only matters in low light anyway. The flash usually won't fire good lighting, or if it does then it's weakened by my diffuser and I don't usually notice it in the print.

The Impossible Project is doing great work, but I can't help but think the Fujifilm stuff is more practical, especially for a newcomer to instant like me.

Yes the Instax film is plenty good imo. I wish they had more flavors, such as a black and white for example. But unless someone is dedicated to instant photography, like doing a masters thesis or something...the Instax film should be fine. I respect Impossible has done but their film is expensive and not as easy to use. The 210 is an ugly duckling but it's very affordable, works really well, and film is easy to find and relatively cheap.

Well, I use photo paper in old 6X9 folders. That's kinda "instant". If you count same day prints.

I think one of these Fuji cameras with an adapted f4.5 75mm lens from a folder would be neat. What id the ISO of the film?

I have been using a soviet "Moment" folder camera, but that was not a very "instant" situation. If it gets reasonably priced in Europe I wouldn't say no. I already have an SX-70, but it is getting a pain to use as sometimes it fails to pop that photo out, delivering nothing more than disappointment.

Agreed. The styling of the 210 and some of the minis is rather horrible, as a big rounded lump of plastic. They could do a redesign, something more classy.
They could even try to introduce an Instax Wide model with more manual control.

A friend was given a polaroid camera and I brought her to a shop where they sold TIP film plus did a first test shot...
It is quite delicate, the picture was yellow. I guess due to being developed in the open. I hope they keep on improving. And instax film is cheaper, quite cheaper. TIP turns out at 6x9 MF price, comparable to E6.

Great news however. I am no instax user (would bankrupt rather soon) however. I have a single shot on instax wide of me as a kid. Nice package.

And I appreciate all the technical improvements.

A similar model for the 210 wide picture format would be very cool. I would buy it at once, and then giving my current Instax 210 to my children 😉.

You get a negative print when you develop the paper - like a negative only already printed.

Haven't done it myself since making a pinhole camera from a coffee tin for school project.

A friend was given a polaroid for her birthday and I helped with the buying of film. She told me that she liked it and how "not everyone has got this kind of camera".
I can see how the instant result and its phisicality by being a print are an attraction to some.

I swear I saw someone elsewhere talking about a few different speeds of film and some expensive (Japanese only?) B/W film for the Instax (not wide) style cameras.

But when I looked this morning the only thing I could find was some of the Fuji peel apart films in B/W panchromatic format.

I'd bet with this newly designed Instax that we might finally see actual B/W and possibly some other speeds of film for the Instax line. I know I'd love to see some B/W.

My 12-year-old niece really wants an instant film camera. She's grown up with digital phones and I've given her several digital point-and-shoots over the years. I guess the novelty of it all....
