A great usability improvement. Who would have thought something like this is possible?

maybe i'll sell the 35...
only if it's as good as the 35...
i'd rather have a 35 fov than a 50 fov...

This is exciting, might be the first FX lens that I might actually enjoy using! I hope they dont delay release.

Looks great.
I notice there is no picture of the hood though ..... let's hope it's not like the 14mm or as big as the 60mm is all!

So is it going to have the grating auto focus noise/sound of the 35mm or the nice silent smooth sound of the 18-55 ois ?
The only issue I have is that the "enhancements" most likely will cost an extra $400 vs. the 35mm 1.4.

although the scale focus is nice, with the 14mm i feel it was partly to blame for the seemingly heavy "lens unit" which you can feel moving back and forwards when it does the contract detect autofocus. i wouldn't be surprised if it was the case with this lens as well.

Any focus scale is always welcome on a lens. From looking at the photos, however, this one may not turn out to be as useful as such scales are on older manual-focus lenses. That's because the f# marks are very close together, and there are exceptionally few distance values machined into the rotating part of the barrel. I presume that fast autofocus operation mandates that the motors in autofocus lenses like this one need to have a small rotation angle between infinity and closest focus. Thus there's little space on the rotating part of the lens, and its difficult to accurately machine distance values onto it. Older manual-focus lenses had a bigger rotation range and thus the f# markings were farther apart, and there was ample space for more distances to be accurately marked. This lens could turn out to be like the Nikon AIS lenses which have small rotation with some markings, but they are not as useful as the the ones on older AI lenses which have a bigger rotation range and greater separation of the both the f# and the distance markings.

Yes, it doesn't look very functional in the pictures. Markings for 2m and 3m would be handy. As it is, with the 1m, 5m and 8 ft marks it will be workable but may slow the photographer down.

Seriously... the space between the numbers is large enough so that you can guess where where 2-3ft is without a problem. AND there is the on screen/in finder distance scale you can use as well.
Everybody wanted a fast 35mm equiv just so they could zone focus it?

Looks optically excellent. I doubt this lens is ever going to leave my x-pro.

In the 14mm, and I assume 23mm will be same, the lens focus is always "fly by wire" so Fuji could have made the manual focus throw bigger in my opinion and still had fast AF operation.
