Fuji X-Pro or Leica M8

If the GXR had the evf and focus peaking of the NEX7 I'd get it.

If the NEX7 had the microlens sensor of the GXR, or the sensor of the NEX5n I'd get it.

If the NEX5n had the evf of the NEX7 I'd get it.

If the XPro1 had the focus peaking of the NEX7 I'd get it.

For the moment I'm sticking with my M2 and Portra.

There is something about the M8 I do not like. The M bodies used to be works of mechanical art. Now they are shells of the same with a computer inside. A very expensive one at that.

While I find the Fuji to be an interesting camera, I'm going to refrain from judgement until the final results are in. I've read promising reviews and not so promising reviews. I'm glad I waited on the X1, X100, and the NEX-7. The cons outweigh the pros for me.

I am always amazed at the files the M8 and M9 produce.

I would go with the M8 given the choice because the X-Pro is still unproven. For all of its faults, the M8 has given me great images. Had I not been so invested in Leica glass and become fairly adept at rangefinder-focusing, the Fuji would have been given more thought.

I've been a Leica user since 1967. This is reminiscent of when the Contax G1 was introduced. I recall it's siren song well ( I still have a G1 and G2). It was an updated modern platform. It came along with its own set of deficiencies. I think the answer is that thirty years later I can still buy a new Leica film or digital body.

That being said as an M8 owner I voted for the Fuji.

while primarily marketed as an AF camera, just as all mirrorless cams are marketed, i'm not sure we know enough about the xpro's MF process with legacy lenses to so easily dismiss it as some have. while certainly not RF focusing, my guess is that it will have excellent MF aids when used with legacy glass, at the least the equal to the very good sony process. assumptions of the xpro's MF capability should not be inferred from the lack thereof in the x100, as that was intended to be a very different camera than the xpro.

While it is a different camera, it still uses the same OVF/EVF for the most part no?

I voted M8.
I think that in a years time though this poll will not be applicable as the X-Pro retail prices will have dropped a bit and the used ones will have depreciated considerably whereas the M8, will probably still be the same price.

If X1 pro does not have focus peaking, M8 will be a better camera to shoot M/LTM lenses. Personally, I enjoy shooting rangefinders, and I don't see the X1 Pro a replacement. However, If I had never used a rangefinder and was looking for a new camera, I'd choose X1 Pro over M8. However, as a RF enthusiast, I vote M8 over X1pro.

I voted M8 and don't see how they are even in the same league but by appearances. Without proper manual focusing in the viewfinder of legacy glass on the Fuji prox1, I'm missing the point of that camera, apart from being a very expensive AF camera with only proprietary glass working well.

Though the X-1 Pro is a great looking ILC, I think Sony's NEX-7 edges it out. I like the 2 million pixel OLED EVF, I like the slim body, the three control dials, very clean 24.3MPixel sensor and the fact that Leica M and Pentax-K mounts are already very much on the market for it.
