The key updates are:
1. In low-light condition, the X-Pro1 will be much faster in Auto Focus mode.
2. The speed of the image coming into focus when turning the focus ring has been vastly improved.
3. At maximum speed the X-Pro1 can now write to SD memory card twice as fast as before.

I think the rumor of the AF improvements this September is likely.
The new EVF-only Fuji should formally unveil at Photokina next month and from what people are saying, the new X-E1 has the same guts as the X-Pro 1 (it does look like a parts bin raid on the X100, X10 and X-Pro 1). The new firmware is most likely Fuji getting the X-Pro 1 AF performance up to par with the new E-F1.
It would be huge gaffe on Fuji's part if the cheaper "enthusiast" X-E1 had better performing AF than their top of the line X-Pro 1 model.
I'm hoping Fuji can also improve EVF refresh rates in low light/small aperture conditions through firmware as well as implement some better manual focus assist options (like high pass/peeking, adjustable magnification power and magnification patch size). If they did that, they'd take the crown away from Ricoh and Sony for for adapted lens experience.
