Apparently it's official:

(Edit: found Fuji's own info: http://www.fujifilm.com/news/n110901_01.html )

The camera lets you select between manual focus and autofocus via a front-mounted dial. The X10's lens has maximum aperture settings of F2.0 wide-angle to F2.8 telephoto, and is faster at the telephoto end than we've seen in any competing camera other than the Olympus XZ-1 (F1.8 to F2.5).

Besides a back-mounted 2.8-inch-diagonal LCD viewfinder, the X10 also offers an eye-level optical viewfinder. Unlike the unique electronic/optical "hybrid viewfinder" found in the Fujifilm X100, the viewfinder in the X10 is a purely optical version with diopter adjustments. The camera also has an electronic level, which you use via the LCD screen.

The Fujifilm X10's 12-megapixel EXR CMOS sensor (2/3-inch type) is larger than those found in many other performance-minded point-and-shoots.

Looks good for a pns... manual focus implementation doesn't really matter though due to the small sensor.
The optical VF is the highlight for sure.

I wonder if you can save the focus distance to one of the custom settings like the snap distance on the Ricoh GRDIII.
Agree about the OVF.

If Fuji can figure out their performance and UI issues, this might be a good contender to the Olympus XZ-1.

I think they're using a non-functioning mockup in the "Fuji Guys" video, so there's no info on how long it takes to power on, etc.

That's all well and good ... but where's the video of it being unpacked, do they not know what the public want!

It's good to see that Fuji and a couple of other manufacturers are paying attention to what the market desires. :)

Mind you the release of an X10 starts this whole hype cycle that almost fried our brains when the X100 hit the headlines ... I'm not sure that I can take that again! :p

I've gotta admit that this absolutely craps all over the lx5/s95/xz1 group - especially if the optical VF is good to look through. Another really cool idea is the manual zoom on the lens, and the 'made in japan' pride thing fujifilm has going on!

I might be interested in this depending on how it shoots...

It seems a lot more versatile than the X100 ... the zoom lens is an excellent feature in this type of camera IMO and f2 to f2.8 is pretty darned good if the high ISO performance is up there!

Great party camera! :D

I have been looking for a new compact to replace my Ricoh GRD that died about a year ago, but.....I duno, this thing looks so damn ugly. I guess it depends on the finder, if its like the Canon G's then no sale. Still though looks a little larger than I would care for. A little more interested in the Pentax Q if im honest.

It looks tiny.

I'll be curious to see what such a small viewfinder offers.

I wouldn't expect much. But there's definitely a market for small cameras, even for those of us who don't (literally) feel them being comfortable in our hands, but who'd like to go out on a given day without carrying a brick.

Fuji marketing said:
We know, you want camera like rangefinder style and etc etc etc.
We gave x100, excellent camera and combo viewfinder and we ask ... do you want it?
We say next step, do you want cheaper camera which "look"?

Cheaper? We want to give you better pictures from 2/3 sensor than others compact. But still quality like X100. Especially for you. In compact camera, usefull for you, who like more to see. 28, 35, 50, 85, 122 mm lenses. Cheap. Can you imagine?

...

Market is really mysterious.
Tell me, who give us 2/3 sensor now? Or who will be next? Realy, who next?
After all, sensor size is main thing! (in marketing).

I think Fuji is next big digital cameras manufacturer in the world. Sony is much more now?!?!?!
GXR is answer? Who know, what they (Fuji) think about it?

!!!!! I don't want to talk about cameras. I have everything what I "want". !!!!!

PS. Fuji is my first digital camera. I like it. I like colors from it, really deep colors. Old camera.....
I think, Fuji has excellent engeneers and I am big fun of digital Fuji cameras.

I would just say that guy has large hands. If you look at the numbers the X10 is not really small and comparable to X100:

X100: 126 x 75 x 54 mm (4.96 x 2.95 x 2.13")
X10 : 117 x 80 x 57 (4.6 x 2.7 x 2.2")
